Cantilever desk – There is evidence that sitting for long periods of time is bad for health. However, standing for long is not good for the body, and try to switch from a sit-down desk to a standing desk for abruptly can result in a sore back and aching feet. So although it would be healthier for us all to use standing desks, would ideally like you to ease into it gradually – and hopefully without schlep your computer back and forth between two desks.
This I designed and built cantilever desk. The computer stays put, and I can smooth and easily adjust my desk up and down to stand or sit in front of it. This desktop is designed as an elevator. There is a counterweight at the rear which is attached to the desktop, and both desktop and counterweight moving up and down on the drawer slides as guide rails.

Incidentally, if you’ve got modest carpentry skills, you are not obliged to give birth to a pseudo-Ikea-monster that I did. You can certainly make a more permanent (and attractive) version of this cantilever desk wood glue and proper began. You can also scale this desk larger size, because as long as your desktop platform is stiffened sufficiently, you can throw a sock full of buckshot in counterweight to lift a heavier desk and computer.
